MONTREAL – A West Island woman belonging to an evangelical church that forbids radio, television and the Internet is seeking an injunction to stop the CBC from reporting on the woman’s messy divorce from her husband and his excommunication from the closed religious community.
The motion, which is to be heard in Quebec Superior Court on Friday, says the couple were married in New York in 1996 and vowed to raise their children according to the followings of the exclusive Plymouth Brethren, of which there are about 100 members in Montreal.
The airing of the program would be prejudicial to the children, who “dress somewhat differently than other children,” the motion says. Members of the group, including children, don’t socialize or eat with people outside the community.
The woman, who can’t be identified to protect the identity of the couple’s five children, says the marriage fell apart when her husband “became obsessed with porn, strip bars and prostitutes.”

And a deserved buzz it is. Belgian director Geoffrey Enthovenâs edgy comedy strikes all the right notes as it tells the story of three young disabled men who go on a road trip to a Spanish brothel catering to men in their situation.
Inspired by the real-life journey undertaken by Britainâs Asta Philpott, Come As You Are surprises in more than just its premise. Enthoven is refreshingly fearless in his portrayal of pals Lars (Gilles De Schryver), Philip (Robrecht Vanden Thoren) and Joseph (Tom Audenaert), who are respectively terminally ill, paraplegic and blind.
Rather than sidestep the issues or treat his protagonists with kid gloves, he shows them to be regular guys who joke around, talk about sex and make fun of each other.

TORONTO, Canada — Former world champion Arturo Gatti became a boxing legend with what often looked like fights to the death.
Born in Italy, raised in Montreal, and trained in New Jersey, Gatti turned fights into blood-stained epic dramas that are part of boxing lore. He won three world championship titles and millions in prize money. He retired in 2007 after 40 wins, 9 losses and 31 knockouts. His fans called him Thunder.
Two years later, at age 37, he was found dead on the floor of a Brazilian hotel room.
Now, a battle as ferocious as one of Gatti’s bouts is being fought over his dead body.
Brazilian authorities initially arrested his wife, a former Brazilian stripper named Amanda Rodrigues, on suspicion of murder. They released her three weeks later, concluding that Gatti committed suicide.

Jay Is this STILL a headline? Geez… Talk about redundant story telling. Why not write a story about all the illegal alien prostitutes polluting our city and damaging it’s reputation? Has anyone looked at a copy of the Hour or the Mirror lately? These free “newspapers” are handed out at every metro station to adults and children alike, and are littered with smut and escorts who are so arrogant they don’t even try to hide what they’re advertising. I can’t even fathom what percentage of them are “working” here illegally and don’t belong here in the first place. It’s a joke and they should all be arrested and deported as well. The authorities pretended to care about enforcing prostitution laws when they shut down the ‘erotic services’ section on Craigslist awhile back, but that did absolutely nothing since the whores simply migrated to the personals and ‘therapeutic services’ sections instead. At the rate things are going, this city will have brothels and “massage parlors” on every street corn …

F Okay, look, guys like hair on pussy because it proves to them that the pussy is RIPE, that the pussy is mature, that it SHEDS AN EGG every month. Now, myself, I’m bald, only because when I try to design a landing strip or an arrow or a V, it gets hacked to shreds. So now, out of laziness and convenience, I just shave all the time. But I was at a strip club once and this girl shocked my pants off when she took off her little robe on stage and she had a bush that was nicely trimmed but had a lot of hair. Like, I’d never seen a woman with that much hair at a strip club past the year 1992, if you will. But I still keep shaving mine because if I don’t, it’s the equivalent of wearing underwear, because that’s how much my hair grows. So what I want to k …
Fresh ideas mixed with a thriving entrepreneurial spirit have brought new life into some buildings around the Old City, in particular to an area known as the Multimédia District. Openly gay friends Patrick Meausette and Rob Hack helped lead this urban Renaissance when they transformed the old Darling Foundry into a mixed art space and popular lunchtime spot called CLUNY Art Bar. The reinvented infrastructure uses much of the original building and provides an industrial feel with steel pieces and reclaimed wood, but the owners keep it comfortable and welcoming with country-style table settings and flower arrangements. Only open for breakfast and lunch, the restaurant offers inexpensive food that is hearty yet simple, and includes panini, salads, soups, and daily specials. Attached to the café is a massive space used for art exhibits and spectacular events ranging from same-sex weddings to fashion parties.
As I stroll along the downtown section of Sainte-Catherine, the city’s main thoroughfare, I discover a bevy of restaurants, nightlife options (including stripper bars), and an eclectic crow …
