Tax man told to keep his hands off stripper’s assets

A dancer at a well-known Montreal strip club has won a case against the tax man.
Revenue Canada wanted the woman to pay tax on two-million dollars worth of cash and gifts she received from a client.
The wealthy businessman was a regular at Chez Paree and Martine Landry was one of his favourite performers. Over four years, he gave her nearly two-million dollars worth of stuff, including cash for a house, money to buy her own bar, eight fur coats, jewelry, and two cars, a Corvette and a BMW.
Revenue Canada wanted $400,000 in income tax and penalties but a tax court has ruled that the items and money were gifts, which are exempt from tax.
